RD-R7150 Di2 is the first electronic shifting system in the Shimano 105 series. Thanks to its generous 41-tooth total capacity, you can shift 12-speed cassettes with a larger 34- to 36-tooth sprocket - also a first for the road bike industry. Hidden in the compact unit, which is only about 40 grams heavier than the Ultegra model due to its high aluminum content, is a lot of high-tech: the wireless unit for wireless communication with the STIs, the charging port, which you can use to easily recharge your shifter with the help of the corresponding charging cable, and a function button. You can use it to adjust the gear system, check the battery status, change the shift mode from manual to synchro and semi-synchro or establish a Bluetooth connection with a bike computer or smartphone. An LED screen helps you do it. The derailleur system is connected to the battery via a cable, from which a cable also leads to the derailleur. It impresses with its fast and precise shifting processes as well as its flat shadow design, which optimizes shifting behavior and prevents damage.

Technologies:

Shadow RD
Shimano's Shadow derailleurs have a very flat profile, allowing for a more aggressive riding style by minimizing the risk of getting stuck in obstacles. In addition, the unique preload ensures that the derailleur does not hit the chainstay even on very rough terrain. All of this contributes to quiet, clean-running gear shifting.

Digital Integrated Intelligence (Di2)
Di2 systems are Shimano's electronic shifting systems. They are based on SEIS, the Shimano Electronic Intelligent System, which takes over the index shifting function of the mechanical components, only via power cables or radio signals and not via a Bowden cable. The change is made simply by pressing a button. This has the advantage that no great effort is required, concentration on the ride is not disturbed and handling is easy even with cold hands, for example. In addition, the electronic gear changes are very fast and very precise. There is also no risk of faulty shifting due to dirty cables or the like. Via the E-Tube platform, the so-called E-Tube Project, you can make individual settings, such as switching speed regulation, the number of switches per button press or the synchronous or semi-synchronous switching function. Shimano offers an app for this purpose. Derailleur maintenance and firmware updates are also done via E-Tube, with the bike connected to a PC running the appropriate E-Tube software for more extensive workshop work.

D-Fly
Shimano D-Fly is a Near Field Communication (NFC) network that allows Shimano e-tube electronics (Di2, STEPS) and compatible smartphones or bike computers to communicate with each other. It is possible, for example, to see information about the components on the screen or to follow the data of the potentiometer. For this, Shimano offers the E-Tube Ride app. D-Fly is compatible with ANT+, ANT and Bluetooth. Network partners include Garmin, Wahoo, Sigma and Cateye for Di2 components and Garmin and Sigma for STEPS components.

Shimano Synchronized Shift
Shimano Synchronized Shifting is a shifting mode that automatically combines the Di2 rear derailleur and Di2 front derailleur. It is activated through the E-Tube platform or through the shifting system with a function button. Synchronized shifting means that the derailleur automatically selects a suitable gear based on the derailleur position, while semi-synchronized shifting means that a suitable derailleur position is automatically set when the derailleur is operated. This gives you the advantage that you only have to concentrate on one side of the shifting process and you are not thrown off rhythm by sudden unfavorable changes in the transmission ratio.
